Today, I’m gonna share my little adventure of making a copy of the Fendi Nappa Spy Black bag. You know, that super chic bag that screams luxury? Yeah, that one. I’ve always been a fan of Fendi, but sometimes their prices, are not friendly, So, I thought, why not try to make one myself? It’s not about making a fake, it’s more like, paying homage to a design I love.
First things first, I gathered all the materials I needed. The most important part was the leather. I searched for a good quality black Nappa leather. It’s gotta be soft, you know, that kind of leather that feels buttery smooth. I found a decent piece online after a good while. It wasn’t cheap, but hey, it’s way less than what an original Fendi would cost.
- Leather: Soft, black Nappa leather.
- Hardware: Some multitone pieces to match the original look.
- Tools: Leatherworking tools, nothing fancy, just the basics.
- Pattern: This one was tricky, I sketched it out based on photos I found online.
Then came the hard part, cutting and sewing. I’m not gonna lie, it was tough. I’ve done some DIY projects before, but this one was on another level. I started by cutting the leather according to my pattern. It’s kinda like making a puzzle, you gotta make sure all the pieces fit. The sewing part, it needed a lot of patience. I used a simple saddle stitch, ’cause it’s strong and looks kinda professional.
The handles, those woven leather straps, they were the real challenge. I tried a few times, and man, it wasn’t easy to get that tight, even weave. I watched some videos, read some stuff online, but in the end, it was all about practice. After messing up a couple of times, I finally got something that looked decent. It’s not perfect, but I’m kinda proud of it.
For the hardware, I found some pieces that looked similar to the original. Attaching them was another story. I had to be careful not to damage the leather. I managed to do it, but it took some time and a lot of patience.
After days of work, I finally finished it. It’s not an exact copy, and I didn’t want it to be. It’s my own version, my tribute to the Fendi Spy bag. It’s got that relaxed hobo shape, the rich texture of the leather, and that signature Fendi style. I even added a little lipstick holder in the front flap, just like the real one.
So, that’s my story. It was a fun project, a real labor of love. I learned a lot, and now I have a bag that’s unique. It’s not a Fendi, but it’s mine. And honestly, I think it looks pretty darn good.
