So, I was browsing around, looking for something special, you know? And that’s when I saw it – the CopyOMEGA Ω Speedmaster 310.92.44.50.01.001, also known as the Apollo 8 “Dark Side of the Moon” – Rocket. Man, the name itself got me excited. Apollo 8? Dark Side of the Moon? Sounded like something out of a sci-fi movie. I had to know more.
First thing I did was check out some pictures. The watch looked absolutely stunning. Black ceramic case, that cool skeletonized dial showing the movement, and those yellow accents – it was a real head-turner. The price though… somewhere around $10,000 to $13,000. Ouch. But hey, it is a special edition piece.
I started digging deeper. Found out that this watch is a tribute to the Apollo 8 mission, the first manned mission to orbit the moon. That’s some serious history right there. The movement inside is a manually wound chronograph, which means you have to wind it yourself. Some people might find that annoying, but I kind of like it. Makes you feel more connected to the watch, you know?
Diving into the Details
- Case: Black ceramic, 44.25mm. Pretty big, but not too crazy.
- Movement: OMEGA Calibre 1869, a manually wound chronograph movement.
- Dial: Skeletonized, with a laser-ablated moon surface design. Super cool!
- Strap: Black leather with yellow stitching. Matches the dial accents perfectly.
I read a few reviews. Most people who own this watch seem to love it. Some said it was a bit pricey, but they felt it was worth it for the unique design and the historical significance. One guy mentioned it’s not worth upgrading if you already have another 44.25mm Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon Apollo 8, which makes sense. I mean, if you already have a similar watch, no need to grab another one that is similar, right?
After spending hours going down this rabbit hole, I’m seriously considering getting one. It’s a big purchase, no doubt. But, I’m a sucker for cool watches with a story, and this one definitely has that. Plus, it’s just so darn good-looking! I’ll probably sleep on it for a few more days, but I have a feeling this watch is going to end up on my wrist sooner or later. I will keep you all posted.
