Alright, so I’ve been eyeing one of these Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatches for a while now, you know, the ones with the see-through back? They call it the “Sapphire Sandwich”. Sounds kind of tasty, doesn’t it?
First, I did some digging around online. There’s a bunch of chatter about these watches. Some folks were talking about how they’re hard to find at a decent price in the official stores, and then I stumbled upon some websites that sold second-hand ones. They looked pretty legit, and the prices were way lower than the new ones. But I am not going to buy a used one.
- Looked at some forums where watch nerds hang out.
- Checked out a few online stores that sell used watches.
- Read a couple of articles about the history of the Moonwatch.
Then, I decided to take a trip to the actual Omega store. You know, just to see one in person and maybe try it on. The store was all fancy and shiny. They had this Moonwatch on display, and man, it looked even better in real life than in the pictures.
I chatted with the salesperson, a real friendly person. They told me all about the watch’s history, how it went to the moon and all that jazz. It was cool, but I already knew most of it from my online research.
Anyway, I tried it on, and it felt great on my wrist. It’s got a good weight to it, and the strap was comfortable. But the price, oh boy, the price was a bit of a shocker. Way more than I was expecting, to be honest. No wonder people are looking for them in the $3,000-$5,000 range, it is impossible in any boutique, for sure.
After leaving the store, I started thinking, maybe I should check out some other places. I remembered seeing some websites that sold replicas. Now, I’m not usually into replicas, but the price difference was tempting. I browsed through their sites, and some of the replicas looked pretty convincing. They even had the Sapphire crystal and the see-through back. The prices were a fraction of the original, like around $2,500, but I was still a bit hesitant. But, I don’t like replica, so I gave up this idea.
What I did in the end
Finally, I made a decision. I went back to the online store. I found a brand new, latest model, reference 310.30.42.50.01.002, still in its box with all the papers. It was from 2021, so not exactly old. The price was better than the official store, but still a hefty chunk of change. But it is still in good price, compared with what it was in the boutique. After a bit of back and forth with the seller, I pulled the trigger and bought it.
Now, I’m wearing this beauty on my wrist. It’s the real deal, and it feels amazing. Every time I look at it, I think about the history and all the stories behind it. Was it worth the money? For me, absolutely. I am very satisfied with my new watch. It’s a piece of history on my wrist, and I love it.
So, that’s my story of getting an Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch. It was a bit of a journey, but I’m glad I went through it. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go stare at my watch some more.
