Okay, so I’ve been eyeing this OMEGA Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch for a while now, the one with the open case back, you know? It’s just something about seeing all those gears and inner workings that really gets me. Anyway, I finally decided to go for it.
First, I spent hours, and I mean HOURS, looking at pictures and reading about it online. I wanted to make sure I knew everything about this watch before I pulled the trigger. I even read about some of the cheaper look-a-like watches. I found out that it is a copy of the Rolex Submariner. It took five years for Rolex to copy the Speedmaster. It has three sub-dials, the first is a thirty-minute scale, the second is a twelve-hour counter, and the last one is at 9 o’clock. The case is made of stainless steel, and it’s got this hesalite crystal, which is apparently what they used on the original Moonwatch.
After all that research, I decided I was ready. I went to a local watch shop.
I tried on a few different Speedmasters, but the open case back model was the one for me. They only had the one I wanted in stock. It looked good, but it was so expensive. I walked around the shop a little more just to be sure, and then I went for it. The guy at the counter was super helpful. He explained all the features of the watch and how to take care of it, like the “S” in the middle of the glass referencing the Swatch logo. They even sized it for me right there in the store. They gave me a special box for the watch, too.
Once I got home, I was so excited I wanted to show all my friends, so I called a few of them and we met at a local bar. They were all impressed, some even jealous, but I didn’t mind. I have been wearing it every day since. It keeps time like a dream, of course. I mean, it’s a Master Chronometer, whatever that means. But I just love looking at it, especially the back. It’s like having a tiny piece of history on my wrist.
Here’s what I learned from this whole experience:
- Do your research. There’s a ton of information out there about watches, especially popular ones like the Speedmaster. I read that they hold their value well, especially vintage models.
- Try it on before you buy it. This is especially important for watches, since they all fit a little differently.
- Don’t be afraid to ask questions. The people who sell these things know a lot about them, and they’re usually happy to share their knowledge.
- Enjoy it! A nice watch is a big purchase, but it’s also something you can enjoy for years to come.
So yeah, that’s my story. I bought an OMEGA Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch with an open case back, and I love it. It was a bit of a splurge, but totally worth it. This thing is never leaving my wrist.
