Okay, here’s my story about remaking the Patek Philippe Gondolo 7042/100R-010, just like you asked.
So, I got this wild idea to try and remake a fancy watch – the Patek Philippe Gondolo 7042/100R-010. I mean, those things are crazy expensive, like $26,000 or even $37,000! No way I could afford that. But I thought, “Hey, why not give it a shot myself?”
First, I started looking up everything I could about this watch. I found out it’s part of their Gondolo collection, which is all about that Art Deco style. They have all these different shapes – rectangles, tonneau, even cushion shapes. I also found that this watch usually sells for thousands of dollars on some online marketplaces, but I don’t know. It seems really fishy to me.
Next, I started gathering materials. Now, I wasn’t gonna use real gold or anything. I’m not made of money! I grabbed some cheap metal and other stuff I could find around the house. I even looked for some of my broken watches I haven’t used in years.
Then came the hard part – putting it all together. I used some basic tools, like pliers and a small screwdriver. It was tricky, man. Those watch parts are tiny! I spent hours trying to get everything in the right place. I watched some videos on how to assemble a watch, but not the exact Gondolo model, so it was a total guess work for me.
- I tried to copy the rectangular shape of the watch case. It wasn’t perfect, but it kinda looked like the real thing.
- The watch face was a real pain. I tried to make it look like the original, but it ended up being pretty messy.
- Putting in the tiny screws and gears was a nightmare. I dropped so many of them!
After many hours of struggling, I finally had something that resembled a watch. It definitely didn’t look like a $37,000 Patek Philippe, but it was my own creation. It is not perfect, but I’m really proud of it. I showed it to my wife, and she said it looks great but doesn’t seem to work. I guess I still have a long way to go before I can make a working watch.
Did it work? Nope. Did it look exactly like the real Gondolo 7042/100R-010? Not even close. But, you know what? I had a blast trying to make it. It was a fun little project, and I learned a lot about watches along the way. Maybe one day I’ll actually be able to make a watch that works, but for now, I’m happy with my little creation.
Lesson Learned
Trying to remake this watch taught me that those watchmakers are seriously skilled. It’s not easy to make something so intricate. I have a whole new respect for the craftsmanship that goes into those luxury watches. Maybe I will try again someday, but first I will try to learn more about watchmaking. Maybe I will sign up to some local classes if I can find some in my area. Hopefully, I will do better next time.
